SYLHET, Bangladesh — The Bangladesh Army and the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) have officially launched “Exercise Tiger Lightning (TL)-2026,” a 13-day joint military training operation designed to deepen bilateral defense ties and enhance regional security readiness.
The opening ceremony took place on Sunday, 19 July 2026, at the Para Commando Brigade headquarters in Jalalabad Cantonment, Sylhet.
The high-profile ceremony was attended by key diplomatic and military figures, including US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen, Bangladesh Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman, alongside senior defense officials and international media representatives.
Executed under the management of Bangladesh’s elite Para Commando Brigade, the exercise will run through 31 July. The joint maneuver involves 184 specialized military personnel—comprising 91 troops from USARPAC and the Oregon National Guard, alongside 93 operatives from the Bangladesh Army’s Para Commando Brigade and allied contingents.
Addressing the assembly, Ambassador Christensen emphasized that the joint exercise extends beyond conventional military engagement, reflecting a shared commitment to a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region built on long-term mutual respect and strategic cooperation.
Lieutenant General Md Mainur Rahman reinforced the Sentiment, describing Exercise Tiger Lightning as a cornerstone of bilateral defense relations that significantly elevates both armies’ operational capabilities and furthers long-term tactical interoperability.
In an official statement published on social media, the US Embassy in Dhaka commended the launch, noting that joint exercises strengthen operational readiness, foster seamless cooperation between the two armed forces, and deepen security partnerships beneficial to both nations.
Washington and Dhaka maintain ongoing cooperation in counter-terrorism, disaster management, and regional security initiatives. Officials confirmed that Tiger Lightning-2026 is specifically structured to refine joint operational capabilities and streamline rapid response protocols across the Indo-Pacific grid.
