Junta Airstrikes Devastate Resistance Outpost and Displaced Civilian School in Magway

July 23, 2026

By Cherry May / MPA

YESAGYO, Myanmar — Consecutive military junta airstrikes and infantry sweeps have inflicted severe structural damage on local resistance outposts and civilian displacement shelters in Magway Region’s Yesagyo Township, frontline personnel verified on Thursday.

The aerial assault occurred around 3:30 PM on 18 July 2026, targeting Ko Aung Maung Camp—an operational base run by the Southern YSO PDF (Magway Federal Unit, Column 3) in Yesagyo Township. The regime deployed four fighter jets alongside an Mi-35 attack helicopter to unleash heavy bombardments on the facility.

A senior official from the Southern YSO PDF confirmed to MPA that the airstrike caused extensive destruction across the camp’s infrastructure.

“Our outposts sustained very heavy structural damage and material losses,” the PDF official stated.

Beyond the military outpost, the regime’s unguided munitions also struck an adjacent school building housing internally displaced persons (IDPs), completely destroying two school structures.

“Two school structures were entirely demolished,” the Southern YSO PDF representative added. “Fortunately, over 100 displaced civilians sheltering inside managed to survive without casualties.”

In an official statement released on Thursday morning, 23 July, the Southern YSO PDF issued an urgent public appeal requesting community donations to help rebuild the destroyed facilities and replace essential operational supplies.

Despite the heavy losses, the resistance group emphasized that its morale remains intact, vowing to sustain its anti-junta operations in Pakokku District. Facing acute resource shortages for reconstruction, the group respectfully invited ordinary citizens to contribute whatever small amounts they can afford to support the recovery effort.

Local resistance sources monitor that the junta has heavily intensified its airstrikes and infantry search-and-destroy missions across Pakokku District following a high-profile incident on 23 June in neighboring Myaing Township, where revolutionary forces successfully destroyed a junta Mi-17 military transport helicopter using a targeted FPV drone.
