Arakan Army Recovers More Corpses and Weaponry After Clashing with Fleeing Junta Troops on Ayeyarwady Border

July 7, 2026

By MPA

YEGYI, Myanmar — The Arakan Army (AA) has recovered additional enemy corpses, infantry weaponry, and military hardware following fresh clashes with fleeing military junta forces who were driven out of their primary outposts on the Rakhine-Ayeyarwady border earlier this week, the rebel group announced on Tuesday.

The military update, published on 7 July, follows the AA’s successful capture of two critical tactical outposts protecting the junta’s strategic Point 227 base in Ayeyarwady Region’s Yegyi Township on 2 and 3 July.

According to official dispatches, active AA guerrilla units executing hot-pursuit mopping-up operations tracked down the shattered remnants of the retreating forces. On 4 July, resistance assault teams intercepted the fleeing regime troops, triggering a brief but intense firefight that lasted for several minutes.

Following the brief engagement, AA forces secured the immediate perimeter, recovering several more junta bodies alongside a fresh cache of military ammunition, infantry weapons, and personal military gear left behind by the retreating soldiers.

The successful mopping-up operations have taken place under a heavy barrage of remote regime firepower. Desperate to halt the AA’s steady territorial expansion out of Rakhine State and into the western mainland delta, the military high command in Naypyidaw has launched continuous retaliatory strikes.

The AA’s central command verified that the junta has repeatedly deployed conventional jet fighters and weaponized drone swarms to strike the newly captured outposts and the recent battlefield coordinates. Concurrently, heavy artillery battalions positioned at secure, distant garrisons have maintained prolonged artillery salvos targeting the area in an attempt to dislodge the entrenched resistance fighters.

Independent military analysts evaluate that the fresh clashes and subsequent recovery of hardware highlight the severe breakdown of conventional infantry capabilities within the junta’s regular forces.

Despite deploying heavy air support and continuous artillery cover, the regime’s frontline infantry—primarily consisting of elements from the 66th Light Infantry Division—has been unable to establish a cohesive defensive line, leaving retreating units highly vulnerable to asymmetric ambushes as the Arakan Army solidifies its strategic foothold inside the Ayeyarwady Region.
