Arakha Army Seizes Twin Outposts Near Rakhine Border Amid Fierce Junta Counter-Offensive

July 4, 2026

By MPA

YEGYI, Myanmar — The Arakan Army (AA) has captured two critical military outposts on the geopolitical border between Rakhine State and the Ayeyarwady Region, overrunning fortified hilltop positions despite an intense, non-stop counter-offensive launched by the ruling military junta’s air and artillery assets.

The latest territorial breakthroughs occurred on 2 and 3 July in Yegyi Township, situated in the westernmost corridor of the Ayeyarwady Delta.

The successful assaults mark a significant territorial expansion for the ethnically ethnic resistance force, which has steadily pushed its front lines out of the Rakhine theater into the mainland delta territories.

According to a formal military dispatch released by the AA General Staff on Saturday, 4 July, frontline commandos initiated a rapid counter-offensive targeting the defensive perimeter of the junta’s strategic Point 227 Hill.

On 2 July, AA forces successfully stormed the first outpost, situated roughly 1.1 kilometers west of Point 227.

The following day, on 3 July, resistance assault teams overran the second defensive position—a critical communications hub known locally as the Tower Station Outpost—located 1 kilometer from the primary base.

Field intelligence logs confirmed that the military junta sustained severe personnel losses during the close-quarter hilltop combat.

AA forces recovered several enemy corpses from the trenches alongside a substantial cache of military-grade infantry weaponry, live ammunition, and communication hardware.

The shattered remnants of the defending force—identified by resistance intelligence as troops from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 108 operating under the direct command of the elite 66th Light Infantry Division (LID)—were forced into a chaotic, disorganized retreat toward the main encampment at Point 227.

The AA confirmed that its active guerrilla units are currently executing hot-pursuit mopping-up operations across the Yegyi hills to completely neutralize the fleeing elements.

The fallout follows a succession of heavy battles in mid-June. Between 17 and 21 June, the AA systematically captured three major high-ground bases in the same sector, designated as Point 288, Point 188, and Point 148.

Desperate to arrest its territorial bleeding, the military council has flooded the Yegyi and neighboring Lemyethna townships with heavy reinforcements drawn from the 344th Artillery Regiment and primary garrisons based in the regional capital of Pathein.

Independent military monitors evaluate that the escalating violence in Yegyi is part of a high-stakes campaign to dominate the Pathein-Monywa Highway.

The junta has deployed thousands of fresh troops along this vital logistical vein, establishing continuous roadblocks and troop deployments to prevent the AA from severing the mainland artery linking lower Myanmar to the northwestern dry zones.

To repel the AA’s persistent advance, the military command in Naypyidaw has resorted to intensive, remote warfare tactics.

Regime forces have continuously battered suspected resistance coordinates with high-altitude aviation bombings, prolonged heavy artillery salvos, and swarms of loitering munitions, commonly referred to as kamikaze drones.

Despite the sheer saturation of regime firepower, field analysts note that the loss of the primary defensive outposts protecting Point 227 underscores the widening combat exhaustion afflicting the junta’s conventional frontline infantry units.

As the Arakan Army continues to solidify its operational foothold inside the Ayeyarwady Region, the military council faces the precarious prospect of a multi-front collapse threatening its core economic and administrative heartlands in the delta.
