A deadly midnight airstrike by the Myanmar military junta has completely destroyed an outpost belonging to the prominent Yair Balu resistance group in Mon State. Ground sources confirm that 12 revolutionary fighters were killed and scores of others sustained injuries during the heavy bombardment.
The aerial assault, which struck at approximately 1:00 AM on 27 May 2026, targeted the group’s headquarters, reducing all structures within the camp compound to ashes. Ground clearance and search-and-rescue operations launched later in the morning have recovered the bodies of 12 fighters so far. Approximately 20 other wounded personnel are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
Speculation surrounded the fate of the prominent rebel leader following the raid. However, ground sources confirmed he survived the attack. “Yair Balu was not killed. He happened to be away at another location on an urgent matter and only returned to the area this morning,” a source familiar with the matter told MPA.
Following the operation, military junta propaganda channels on Telegram quickly synchronized efforts to spread misinformation, aggressively claiming that the leader of the Yair Balu group had been eliminated in the strike.
While the surprise aerial attack inflicted severe casualties and extensive structural damage on the group, ground reports indicate that the remaining fighters and their commander maintain high morale. The resistance group has vowed to continue its revolutionary operations against the military regime despite the setback.
