YANGON, Myanmar — Pro-democracy resistance forces neutralized nearly 650 military junta personnel during the month of June alone, while regime forces killed at least 340 civilians in intensifying retaliatory campaigns, Myanmar’s parallel National Unity Government (NUG) Ministry of Defense confirmed.
The monthly strategic combat updates release was published by the NUG Ministry of Defense (MOD) late Wednesday evening, 15 July 2026. According to the ministry’s consolidated data, a total of 644 junta troops were killed in action (KIA) and 209 others sustained injuries during dynamic frontline clashes documented across the country throughout June.
The defense ministry highlighted that the casualty logs included significant losses within the regime’s commanding officer corps, noting that 20 junta officers were either killed, wounded, or successfully captured by resistance forces during the 30-day reporting window.
The NUG MOD’s operational matrix maps out a substantial escalation in offensive capabilities by the People’s Defence Force (PDF) and allied Ethnic Resistance Organizations (EROs):
- Base Seizures: Joint resistance columns executed 9 successful camp-seizure operations, completely overrunning and capturing fortified junta bases.
- Tactical Assaults: Revolutionary forces launched an additional 15 targeted attacks against entrenched military deployments and logistics hubs.
- Aviation Engagement: Defense networks registered one targeted strike against a junta military helicopter, directly challenging the regime’s air superiority.
While the military council sustained heavy structural attrition on the battlefield, its security columns intensified scorched-earth and air operations against non-combatant populations, driving up the humanitarian toll.
The MOD verified that junta atrocities throughout June resulted in the deaths of 340 civilians, while an additional 371 non-combatants sustained injuries. The fatalities included 34 children, highlighting the devastating impact of the military’s indiscriminate heavy artillery and aerial bombardments on residential zones.
The military council’s destructive campaigns also resulted in the total obliteration of 1,255 civilian homes and the severe destruction of 9 religious structures, including historic temples and churches across the embattled heartlands.
Independent military analysts evaluate that the high junta casualty rates published by the NUG underscore the deep tactical vulnerabilities facing the regime’s overextended infantry columns. Forced to rely almost exclusively on indiscriminate air strikes and long-range heavy artillery due to severe frontline desertions and manpower shortages, regional military commanders are causing massive humanitarian suffering.
With the NUG MOD and its allied ERO commands systematically coordinating larger, multi-battalion operations to dismantle remaining urban outposts, independent watchgroups warn that the civilian death toll will continue to rise unless international bodies enforce strict bans on aviation fuel shipments to the isolated military cartel.
