HTILIN, Myanmar — Two elderly residents have been wounded and several homes destroyed following a targeted airstrike by the Myanmar military on a civilian village in Magway Division, local sources have reported.
The attack occurred at approximately 1:17 PM on March 26, 2026, in Kazun Htaung Ywa Thit, located on the eastern bank of the Maw Chaung river in Htilin Township. According to witnesses, a single jet fighter dropped two 300lb bombs directly onto the residential area, despite there being no active ground combat in the vicinity.
The casualties include an elderly man, who sustained a shrapnel wound to his thigh, and an elderly woman, who was hit in the arm. Both victims are reportedly from neighboring houses.
“The bombs fell directly onto the houses,” a local source told MPA. “Those injured are elderly citizens who were unable to flee in time. They are currently receiving medical treatment for their shrapnel wounds.”
The raid resulted in the total destruction of five homes, which were razed by fires ignited by the blasts. Additionally, several head of livestock, including a cow and three pigs, were killed in the explosions.
Su Le Kone village, which consists of roughly 300 households, has seen a wave of displacement following the strike. “After the fires were brought under control, many residents—particularly women and children—fled the village in fear of a follow-up attack,” the source added.
This latest strike follows a significantly deadlier incident on March 24, when the military deployed six jet fighters to bomb the Maw Lel junction on the border of Htilin and Gangaw townships. That assault claimed the lives of five local men.
The systematic use of heavy airpower against non-combatant villages in Magway’s Yaw region continues to fuel accusations of war crimes. As the sham government loses its grip on rural territories, civilian populations remain the primary victims of its escalating aerial campaign, which local activists say is intended to terrorize and punish communities supportive of the resistance movement.
