A high-ranking official within Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) has tendered her resignation, citing health reasons, even as she maintains that recent allegations of misconduct against her were proven false.
Daw Kyi Pyar, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Union Prime Minister, submitted her resignation on 21 February 2026. This move comes after a three-month period of suspension and investigation that began in November 2025.
In her resignation letter, Daw Kyi Pyar stated that the investigation into allegations against her and her husband has concluded, clearing them of any wrongdoing. However, she noted that her current health condition requires immediate attention, making it impossible to continue her official duties.
The controversy began in late 2025 when Daw Kyi Pyar and her husband, U Nyi Nyi Min—a Director-General at the Ministry of Education—were accused of abuse of power, corruption, and the oppression of subordinates.
The case drew significant attention from the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) Health Network, which threatened to sever ties with the NUG if Daw Kyi Pyar was not removed and held financially accountable.
Despite Daw Kyi Pyar’s claim that she has been cleared, NUG leadership suggested that the administrative process is still ongoing. During a press conference on 21 February, Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Minister of the Office of the Union Prime Minister, clarified that her suspension remains in effect.
“She was suspended to allow for a fair investigation. As of now, she has not been reinstated,” Dr. Zaw Wai Soe told reporters.
Union Minister of Home Affairs, U Lwin Ko Latt, added that the tribunal has already submitted its findings to the Prime Minister, and further disciplinary or legal actions are being considered.
Political observers suggest that the resignation might be a calculated move to de-escalate internal friction. “While she maintains her innocence, citing health as a reason to step down could be seen as an ‘exit strategy’ to resolve a highly public and divisive dispute within the revolutionary government,” one analyst remarked.
In her closing statement, Daw Kyi Pyar pledged to continue supporting the revolution in whatever capacity she can until its eventual victory.
